Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Five stars

So the world’s meant to end today and if it does I can die safe in the knowledge that I have watched the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Is it worth seeing…yes it is!

It opened on Wednesday and I’m not going to give much away just in case you’re planning on seeing it. I’m going to say SPOILER ALERT just in case.

You have the option to see it in 3D or 2D and just to let you know I watched it in 2D (because it’s cheaper!) and I can tell you it’s just as brilliant.

There’s one thing you have to know though, if you’re going to see it thinking you’ll be seeing the whole cast of the previous ones you’re sorely mistakes. Will and Elizabeth are no longer apart of the saga  along with many of the Black Pearl crew, however, Barbossa is back as is Mr Gibbs and of course Jack Sparrow along with new cast members. These include Penelope Cruz who plays Jack Sparrow’s old flame, Angelica, and also Ian McShane, who plays Blackbeard.

It’s all about a race to the finish line between the English, Blackbeard and the Spanish as they try to find the Fountain of Youth (mentioned in the last film).

The film is full of special characters including some beautiful yet scary mermaids, zombies and a fire-breathing ship. There is also another cameo from Keith Richards playing Jack Sparrow’s father.

The film is much more focused on Jack Sparrow this time as there is no other big love story going on which may delight or displease some of you. It definitely made me happy.

The film is funny, sad and may even make you jump at times and is definitely worth the wait. The way the film ended made me believe there may be a fifth movie in the works. Also lets face it, four is a weird number to end on. I really hope there is another as I don’t think the stories over yet.

So go and see this movie. It’s worth it! Also, do not let someone drag you out of the cinema when the credits roll because they want to get home (yes Tom, I mean YOU!). Like all Pirates of the Caribbean movies there is a short scene after the credits.
